An on-the-job wiring headache turned into a double victory for professional electrician Kimmy during a visit to the Forum Lighting Solutions stand at the ELEX trade show.
Not only did she walk away with a £100 Amazon voucher for winning the popular ‘Stop the Clock’ challenge, but she also discovered the exact technical solution needed to solve a complex residential installation project.
Faced with a tricky project on site, Kimmy had been searching for an efficient alternative to traditional cabling. The brief required her to find a way to switch outdoor lights from inside a client’s living room, without routing new cables or drilling through to the garage consumer unit.
While testing her speed on the Forum stand at the Exeter and Harrogate ELEX events, Kimmy discussed the problem with the Forum technical team. They introduced her to the Forum Kinetic wireless switch range, which provided the ideal wireless solution to bypass the garage entirely.
“I had a very specific job I needed a solution for and ended up finding it right there on the stand,” Kimmy explained. “I needed to switch outdoor lights from inside the living room without going into the garage and without running a new cable. Her success at the exhibition caps off a determined 12-year career journey in the electrical sector. Kimmy transitioned into the trade in 2014 from an administrative and accounts role at a building firm
“It actually started as a joke,” Kimmy said. “Everyone in the office laughed and said ‘stick to your high heels and office desk—you’re a woman.’ That ignited a fire to prove them wrong, as well as society on a wider scale. I started going out on the tools doing evening emergency call outs after my office job.”
